PUNCHBOWL
Punchbowl is an established residential area with some commercial areas along Punchbowl Road. Punchbowl is bounded by Wattle Street in the north, Koala Road and Punchbowl Road in the east, Canterbury Road in the south and Stacey Street South, Boxley Crescent, Stacey Street, Daphne Avenue, Columbine Avenue, Scott Street and Carrisbrook Avenue in the west. Part of the suburb of Punchbowl is located in Canterbury City. Punchbowl’s name is derived from Punchbowl Road, thought to describe a natural feature on the Cooks River in current day Belfield.
Settlement of the area dates from the 1830s. Significant development did not occur until the inter-war period, with development continuing after the war. Rapid growth took place during the post-war years. The population increased slightly from the early 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.
Major features of the area include Arthur Park and a number of schools.
