CLOYTON
Colyton is an established residential area, with a small industrial area along Roper Road. Colyton is bounded by the Great Western Highway in the north, Ropes Creek in the east, the Western Motorway in the south and generally by Marsden Road in the west. Colyton is named after Colyton House in Devon, England.
Settlement of the area dates from 1819 when the first land grant was made. Land was used mainly for grazing and wheat growing. Some growth took place in the 1880s, although land remained largely rural and many orchards were established. Significant development occurred in the post-war years, with considerable residential and industrial growth in the 1960s. The population has fluctuated slightly since the early 1990s.
Major features of the area include Colyton Shopping Centre, Life Education Centre, Potter Field, Roper Road Soccer Fields, Shepherd Street Park and two schools.
